In India only the Ministry of External Affairs can issue the Apostille. The Apostille is different then the regular attestation. The Apostille is a Certificate of Authenticity and Genuineness of a document.

What You need :

1. Original Documents
2. Copy of Passport
3. Name of the country for which you need Apostille.

How to do :

The process of Apostille involves two steps; one is the authentication of documents from Issuing states home department. Second step is to submit to the Ministry of External Affairs for Apostille.

Step -1 : Authentication of  Documents

All original documents should be first authenticated by the designated agencies in the State from where the document has been issued. In case of personal documents, Home Department/General Administration Department are the designated authorities. In case of educational documents, the documents should first be authenticated by the Education Department of the concerned State Government/Union Territory.

Step- 2 : Apostille of Documents

After the Authentication the documents can be submitted to the Ministry of External Affairs for the Registration. The Apostilled documents can be collected after a day or two from the Ministry of External Affairs.

The Ministry of External does not take responsibility of the contents of the documents. The fee of the Apostille for each document is Rs. 50/- it can be paid by the Postal Order drawn in favor of Pay & Accounts Officer (PAO), Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi.
